Soon after the Sarbananda Sonowal-led ministry expansion with seven new ministers taking oath of office on Thursday, senior BJP leader and three-time Dibrugarh legislator Prasanta Phukan quit as the chairman of the party’s state panchayat rules enumeration committee.

He also gave up his post as the chairman of the Dibrugarh-based Assam Medical College Hospital. In a letter to the secretary of the Health department today, Phukan tendered his resignation from the post of chairman of the Dibrugarh-based Assam Medical College Hospital.

On the other hand, Phukan in a letter to the BJP president also tendered his papers from the post of the chairman of the party’s state panchayat rules enumeration committee. In both the cases, Phukan mentioned personal reasons for his decision.
