The final draft of the NRC slated to be published on June 30, may now be delayed.
Despite best effort by the authorities, the completion of the mega exercise being monitored by the Supreme Court may be delayed due to the devastating floods which have reportedly hampered the final phases of the work at several parts of the state.
Commenting on the situation, state NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela said as many as 90 NRC Seva Kendras have been affected by the floods in Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts in Barak Valley. In fact 18 NRC Seva Kendras in Karimganj had to be shifted, informed Hajela.
The state NRC coordinator significantly said if the NRC work is hampered for 2-3 days the progress can be recovered, however if the process is affected for a bigger timeframe, it is likely to affect the completion of the task before the June 30 deadline.
However, Hajela said the picture will be clear only after a few days. Apart from Barak Valley, a few NRC Seva Kendras have also been affected in Hojai and Karbi Anglong.
