Hundreds of women took to the street at Yazali town in Arunachal Pradesh decrying the failure of the state government in addressing the issue of acute power shortage.
Despite the presence of 405 megawatt Ranga Nadi Hydro Electric Project in the Yazali town which contributes around Rs 60 crore revenue to the state, the locals of the town are deprived of regular supply since the last three months.
The locals alleged that students had to bear the brunt of power shortage even during the course of appearing for examinations. The local women also carried out a signature campaign against irregular power supply by the sub division power office in Lower Subansiri district since April.
The signatures collected through the campaign will be submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Lower Subansiri. The protesters warned of intensifying their agitation in a democratic manner if the government fails to pay heed to their demands of restoring regular power supply.
