Massive protest began today at the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) in eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

The protest was organised by the Namrup regional committee of the Tai Ahom Students Union. The protesters included families of the workers and employees of the plant which is the lone fertilizer manufacturing plant in the entire Northeastern region.

The main demand is setting up of a state of a fourth unit for the plant since the existing units have already surpassed their lifespan about a decade ago.

Although, the Centre had promised the setting up of a fourth unit at Namrup 12 years ago it is yet to be materialized.
